It was Saturday night. I met with Daveee, Randy, and his girlfriend Gabrielle @ Dan Jensen’s house. We were staying @ Randys for the night and the next morning heading to Cholo Vista for the DB Takeover event. We ate @ I Love Sushi and were deciding if we should watch Brokeback Mountain or Date Movie. Somehow it turned into me saying that I’ve never been fishing before and Daveee insisting that they teach me how to get a fish.

Having on stussy dunks, Daveee recommended me not using those shoes. Randy offered to lend me a pair of shoes to wear, but I didn’t realize he was a shoe size smaller than I am and my feet were crushing. Randy slipped into a pair of Paul Frank boots totally appropriate for him since he is now “Flashing” for them.

Our bait

Daveee gave me tips on how to hold the fish for the photo. Actually it was more for the ultimatum because if I held it wrong and it squmiers all over the place, they would make fun of me down and back up SD.

We parked across the street from the spot, the Santa Ana Country Club, and walked around to the entrance. The guard booth’s lights were on, but no one was there. The course was dark and mysterious and for some reason it reminded me of how Scottland golf courses would look like. Randy found the place through google maps. Google Maps is the best, true that. DOUBLE TRUE.

Not wasting any time, Daveee caught a fish in five minutes. Randy mentioned that there was a good chance that I would catch at least one fish.

Three minutes after, he caught another one. We were juiced and knew ours was coming, but nothing happened for a good 30 minutes. Daveee SWORE fishing was fun.

Because Randy broke one of the poles, we only had three and Gabrielle was to share with Randy. When the pole was at use, Gabrielle was rolling around in the grass.

After going to another pond and circulating the main pond Randy finally caught his fish.

The pressure was on. Randy decided to put a new bait on my line; one that looked like a black worm and smelled a little horrid. I threw the line out and something tugged on it. I moved it to the side and it was still caught. I thought it would have been grass since I’ve been catching that, but it was tugging my line a little harder. IT WAS A FISH. I yelled to Randy saying, “I think I caught one”. He told me to hook it. Me being such a rookie to this sport, I thought there was a button on the pole for me to hook it, but then he told me I had to pull the pole up. I did and at the same time he broke free. I was upset, but determined. Right after, the fish grabs the line again. I hook it appropriately and reel that bad boy in. Daveee was at the other pond, but ran towards my way being juiced for me, but I was the juciest catching…

…and then kissing it. No Homo.

I was really determined to catch a couple more fishes. Randy and I go to the other pond where Daveee was catching 3 more fishes, but he thinks it’s the same one. Randy lines out and says “Wow this is really hard to pull back, Oh Snap it’s a fish!” He tries to line it in, but it escapes. After another good while on this pond without any action happening, we go back to the big pond where Daveee catches another fish.

…then caught this

Gabrielle was keeping herself entertained by doing cartwheels and roaming around the course. Then the sprinklers went on and seeing her escape from it entertained us for a good brief moment. Randy and Daveee were posted in the sandtrap when Daveee catches one. Randy also catches one and they wanted to a double photo. Daveee decides not to completely reel his fish in until Randy has his in, but it escapes and so does Daveee’s fish.

Randy then catches two in a row.

it was around two am and we were getting a little restless and decided to call it a night with the score:

Daveee: 4

Randy: 3

Apollo: 1

I really didn’t care that I caught only one, in fact I’m excited I got one. That was pretty much my main goal. But the best feeling is to hang out with the homies, for them to teach me how to fish, then catch one and to document this EXCLUSIVELY is more of a reward than the 4 dollars we bet on for who catches the biggest fish (which we forgot to bring the weight, so it turned to a who caught the most since the fishes were about the same size)
